Curators please help :-)

I'm trying to help a second cousin to access our familytree. But till now it hasn't succeeded the ordinary way.

So this morning I tried a new way. I made a new profile of her with her e-mail and intended to merge the new profile to her profile in our familytree.

But now I cannot find her new profile !

Could you please help me to merge the two profiles, so we can make it work now ?

Unknown Profile

The new profile made this morning: Karen G. Hansen.

I would appreciate your help very much :-) - Karen G. Hansen will be able to extend our tree with new branches.

Henny is the other one Karen Gunnild Hansen

If you put the same email address in both profiles, Karen should be able to merge them.

Of course Karen won't be able to extend very far without Pro status due to Geni restrictions on Geni Basic users. Pro status may be advisable.

Yes - there it is. Made this morning.

David Prins - I'm not sure, that Karen will be able to do the merge. She don't understand English and is an elderly woman.

Are you able to help - or am I going to guide her to make the new profile public?

The elderly people possess a lot of knowledge about genealogy and familyrelations. But it isn't easy for them to start here on Geni when they don't understand English.

I know the problem about the limitation and the basic-status. But one step at a time. Besides when she knows Geni better she might be able to make a new tree with the branches missing. And then merge the trees.

Or I could help her adding the branches.

Henny, - what is the point of adding a dulicate of her and merge it in?

If she already have a profile you can just connect her directly into the line.
It does however require that she give you family group access an temporary open up for family to edit her profile, - which seem to be needed anyhow.

Henny - having identified the missing profile for you, I leave you in Bjørn's capable hands. He has more powers than I have and has all the technical know-how that might be required.

Re not understanding English : there are other language interfaces available on Geni.

Brox - an invitation didn't succeed. That's why I tried this way thinking that i would know the login to her new profile ..... but of course I didn't - it was sent to her mail. It was early morning - so I'm sorry - my brain was still sleeping.

Are you able to help us Brox?

Or are we going to have a break and later add the new profile to my familygroup. I have just found out that this is a possibility.

The straight way will always be the easiest - but unfortunately it didn't work in this case.

OK David Prins.

Other languages as Danish is only available when you have accessed Geni :)

Yes - http://www.geni.com/tr8n/language/switch?language_action=switch_lan... is an option once you have joined Geni

I believe we have a small problem here... sex change is necessary, and maybe some other issues... Can someone help me solve this problem?
http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000007444630277?resolve=6...

No sex change necessary, but Mary is missing a mother. We also need to know if Edmund was married once., or twice.

David, let me check my sources and see what they say about Edmund.

I have Edmond Littlefield B. bef. 1592 in England, son of Mary French and Francis, married to Annis or Agnes Austin Oct 16, 1614. Mary Littlefield, daughter, was b. bef 1630 and she married 1st :to Lt John Barrett and second to Thomas Page.

Further... A Francis B. (the younger) b. c 1635, son of Edmund, had Mary, B. 1673 she married Samuel hatch son of Phillip Hatch

Hmmm... there are two Edmunds- one being the grandfather of the other:

I'm talking about the grandson who was born circa 1665:

http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000002999163994

I think at some point somebody may have inadvertantly mixed aspects of these two Edmonds togather.

Actually I notice that Geni users have spelled that grandfather's name as Edmond (with an "o") while the grandson is spelled Edmund (with a "u").

I doubt that both of these are correct.

... just remember that during that era lots of folks names ended up getting spelled differently -- sometimes intentionally, sometimes because someone wrote down what was phonetic. Even siblings in the same family would sometimes ended up using different spellings of their last name later in life. That certainly could also happen with first names between generations.

Of course, verification from sources would be nice, but I would not assume that they both "ought" to be spelled the same just because that's the way we'd assume it would be done today.

The REAL problems in this branch start with Thomas Page, Sr..

I can find absolutely nothing to substantiate anything shown earlier than him- especially the dates. It looks to me that the three Sylvesters (if there realy were three), their spouses and their siblings are all chronologically messed up.

Hello Curators. Could I please ask for some assistance?

I seem to be having a bit of difficulty assigning the correct parents for Frances Plowden (Dormer): Hon. Frances Plowden (Dormer). Her parents are (correctly) Charles Dormer, 5th Baron Dormer of Wyng and (correctly) Elizabeth Dormer (Biddulph). Currently she is showing as being the daughter of Catherine Dormer (Fettiplace). I've tried going through and assigning parents, but I seem to only get a time-out and the suggestion to contact help.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have seen the differences in spelling also, and have not let it bother me too much since they were always interchanging the spellings at that time. What does (eol) mean? I see that here.
Mary Littlefield

Can I have this profile of this girl made private? She prefers the privacy and has contacted me. Private.

Thank You.

David, I have no info here at my disposal about the edmund you referred to. Lots of other Littlefields, but not that particular one.

All I know is that he is the son of Anthony.

John Anthony, I think you should be able to do it yourself (curators can't revert public to private
on the top right side go to actions and make profile private

please let us know if you've succeeded

:-)

Private - See Ofir's comment.

My personal suggestion would be you use 'Lists" under 'Family" and search for all Profiles in your Family Group who are Living and Public -- and unless you know they are comfortable with having a Public Profile, change them to Private.

Private User - to send someone an invite from a Profile, don't you want to enter the e-mail address in a Private Profile, not a Public Profile - so make it Private first, then send the invite (last I looked, Geni does not allow claimed public profiles - possible trying to do this may be part of what is causing a problem).

Private User@lois -Sending someone an invite from a Public Profile, not a problem.
I,ve done it several times. What happens is that the profile automatically turns private once the user enters it.
