Bjørn,

Is there some place where a user could find this information?
(and information about other symbols)

I too think public/private could be more visible. Not on the tree, it's quite fine. But on the profile where you enter your information. As it is now it's placed in the right upper corner. Your focus is not there when you enter information.

I agree with Henny and Peter. When you are adding profiles in "quick add" and proofreading after in "profile view," you do not easily see the public / private settings.

Can someone assist with resolving these profiles @Gary McBeth, @Vesa-Matti Leppänen and @Maddie

Thank you

Erica, I completly agree with you... I have just reviewed some profiles that I have added and whom are dead... I have clearly set them as private. My problem is that I don't have time to go through 2500 profiles and make them all public!..... I realize that this causes issues for people searching and potentially making contact or merging profiles. What to do??

Jason

Private User I agree.... Thanks for the info... I now know what the green box means!

Jason

Jason Bernard Frederick Walsh - you don't have to go through all your profiles if you want them all to be public. Only to your 2nd great great or so.

Hopefully Geni don't change the possibility to make ones tree private. I myself think it is fine as it is. I'm not a youngster which means that a lot of my deceased profiles are private to me and my family.

If other users are connected to my private profiles they only have to send me a message.

I'm not interested in having my private profiles copied into other genealogy sites or to be googled..

Jason Bernard Frederick Walsh All of the profiles you requested help on are private. Have you tried contacting the managers?

Jason Bernard Frederick Walsh

If you go to the list option asn change it to "managed" "private" then pick a year of your choise say "born before 1800" then uddate. Your list of profiles will be cut down to a manahable leval.

And most important, on the right side there will be a button that say "make public" and you ccan get the names changed to public in no time.

Dear Curator Gods and Goddesses,
I'm never quite sure how some of this stuff ends up in my tree conflict box, but this another fine mess. This poor person has too many parents and his dad appears to be his brother too!

Please help,
Thanks,
Jessie German

Jessica, how can I refuse someone who calls me a goddess! I will follow up with you via inbox message.

I am looking at the dates for the various Thomas Richardson profiles. I think I can see the problem here. Thomas born 1515 is the father of Thomas born 1543, right?

Jessica, it looks like another curator got to it before me.

Hi Jessica and MEZ if you look at the 'About me' of Thomas Richardson, l, of Westmill

It does have some information..but is it ever confusing

l;et me give you an example
It shows "2. Thomas Richardson* was born 1523 in Westmill, Hertfordshire, England, and died in Westmill, Hertfordshire, England. He married Margaret Silverside* June 15, 1542 in St. Alban's Abbey, Hertfordshire, England. (unconfirmed)"

But according to the Tree Margaret Richardson was born c1541

Eldon, these and about 60 merge issues have been hanging around for over 12 months........ I suspect most of the managers have quit this site.... doesn't help me build my tree thought does it!

Marvin, THank you I will try that.....

Jason Bernard Frederick Walsh My count is 1116 mostly within 4 generations but Geni just ignores it.

Peter, Henny, Mike -

For myself and my relatives, the problem is the opposite of the one Peter experiences - we want the profiles Private, often Geni's default sets newly created Profiles to Public - and it is often not noticed!!

Mike - I am wondering if there is any way Geni could send a message as it saves a newly created Profile, saying, for example: "This Profile is being set to 'Public' [or 'Private', depending on which the case is], if you do not want this, then Edit the Profile" -- This would help out both of us!!

Thanks to those who cleared up the Thomas Richardson mess!

Dear currators, please SPLIT the tree of wrong merge:

Wrongly merged profile: http://www.geni.com/people/R%C5%ABta-Makaveckait%C4%97/600000000323...
Her father should be: Private

I created a ticket (#14642), but no response for a weeek.

Thank you.

that is a claimed profile so curators cannot edit it

Who can edit it? Can the user herselft split the tree - choose the correct parent?
Or it's only Geni support?

Yes you are a pro, you can set the relationships if you are in the family group

Although I am usually very careful, I believe I accidentally merged the following profile and I think they belong to 2 different generations. Can someone please unmerge Wolf Flekeles. Thank you!

(I really wish there were an unmerge button .... (: )

Unmerge is currently on the top priority list of Geni before several needed changes, so stay tuned..

"Unmerge is currently on the top priority list of Geni before several needed changes"

Didn't they assure us about about 8 billion times that any change can be rolled back?

Question...if you have a user blocked and they send you an email, will it show as an unread email in your count box, but not show in your in box?
