Hi...I am in the US and only speak English, I have found family in France who only speaks French. Google translate is ok, but I am not getting the fine details I need when I translate.

Can anyone send me or recommend a French language site that has Family Group/Family Record Sheets in the same standard format as the English versions that I can either send to him, or send him to?

Thanks in advance!

Anita, I'll help you if you want. Give me some clues and I'll help get the dialogue going!

Anita M. Boynton

If the other person is on Geni, and put the profile up, the information will be in the saame place for both of you. Anything in the about me that you need translated will have to be tru someone else on Geni who speaks both languages. France is #12 on the list of people that visit Geni.

They are not on Geni Marvin...they have no interest in joining, I have tried as best I can via online translators!

George...I will email you, thank you!

Can someone please Merge the 2 profiles of Otto FRANK - one of them being Managed by a Fake Manager - his daughter Anne FRANK:

http://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000012838794587?from%5Fflash=...

Can you please explain why a person's box may be white? Are there other colors besides white, pink and blue?

Also, separate question - how do you handle someone who is adopted? How do you note that a person is adopted? How do you handle connecting her/him both with her/his "growing up" parents and family and biological parents and family, if she/he wants that?

White means either it's the person who is the focus of the tree you are working on OR it means it is private. They look differently however. I believe there is green (unknown gender or gender not filled in in profile).

I'll let someone else speak to adopted since I believe there has been progress. What I have done is connect them to their adopted parents and provide a link to a DUPLICATE profile in the About Me that is linked to the biological parents.

Can someone please tell me if we are able to enclose a file in a mail?

Andy ...when you are in the merging screens (where you can stack), and when you are on the tree, the targeted profile person is white. I haven't ever seen any other colors.

I am not sure on adoptions as of today, either, as I know changes have been discussed, but not their status. I would suggest you check the knowledge base (HELP at the bottom of each page) for the most current info on adoptions.

Henry, do you mean as an attachment to an email? No, not via Geni mail. You could upload a document and then either tag the receiver, or add the link to the document in the email, but not actually attach the document to the email.

Peter: the Anne Frank managed profile is private, so not much we can do at this time. How did you determine she was a Fake Manager?

Thanks for flagging Anna Frank :-) Peter, you must have seen that I did a little bit of 'cleaning' - but that claimed Anna Frank profile is indeed a nuissance. A shame, even!

Anita & George, yhanks for trying.

Anita - because Anne Frank - is the one of who wrote the dairy in WW-2, made into a book and movie:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne_frank

I see that Anne Frank (the fake profile) has been reported.

I did that while back :)

Andy, the only other color for the profile boxes in tree view is grey. That means it is either a zombie (someone too old to still be living but not marked dead) or a private profile. Curators can help with the Zombies. They cannot always make a private profile public.

If you see a grey box, send a message to this discussion. Give us a link (copy and paste the URL from the top of the profile - it always starts www. geni.com) of the closest relative who is not in a grey box. Curators are happy to help with this.

Has anyone considered changing the names on Fake Profiles? Something like "FAKE-REPORTED" in the display name?

Thank you for your help, Anita. I linked to a document, and it works :-).

Is there any possibility to split my and my ex-partners trees and remove the connection?

Helen...what status did you choose on your "relationship" tab (in Edit Profile) for him?

Ex-partner

Ok, then if that didn't do it, at the bottom of that relationship tab, check the remove box next to his name. That will disconnect you but leave both trees intact.

That gives a warning that removing him will split the trees and the "Remove" button stays inactive, so removing is not possible.

Currently only Pro users are allowed to split the tree (I've asked our Product team to revisit this decision, but I don't really know whether they'll agree). For now you can temporarily invite a Pro user to join your Family Group; he or she can break the connection for you, after which time you can remove them from your Family Group.

Since you've got my attention anyway and I have admin tools for this, I've gone ahead and split the connection for you.

Mike at Geni

Thanks Mike...it is so hard as a Pro user to know what a non-Pro can do. Is there a list somewhere?

Mike Stangel anita was asking for a list of what non-pros like me can do and what they have to beg the pros to do for them... could you let us know?

I don't think we have a list that goes into that much detail... I'm asking the product team to look into it.

Here is a link to a Hungarian Genealogy course from Family Tree Magazine...http://www.familytreeuniversity.com/hungarian-genealogy-101?utm_sou...

I need to have a link (or a few?) broken to fix a situation where the child is actually the grand-child (based on dates).

I tried to fix this a few different ways, but have not been able to do so.

The tree root (top) starts with John Archdale, Sr.
John Archdale, I

The link that needs breaking is to this particular John Archdale, III:
John Archdale, III
who is currently listed as a son of John Sr. and Patricia Jones (this is her link):
Patricia Archdale

The other son, John II,
John Archdale, II
I added to try to maintain the parent relationships with the mother of many, Anne Archdale (Dorrington):
Anne Dorrington
... but it that seems to have also gotten lost along the way...
I was hoping to merge the multiple profiles of John, III and use that as a means to connect to the parents Anne & John II, but that didn't work for me.

I think the other profiles (listed either as John, III's children or siblings, depending on where one starts looking) should all be John, III's siblings, not his child (Thomas, Barnard, Richard, Martin, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Ann Lowe (Archdale).

Of course, no sources are apparent to me amongst these profiles; if anyone has more accurate information, please take over the cleanup! (I actually started out a few hundred years later in the tree, in the 1700's, and kept working up to figure out what was what, and this appears to be a good place to shake out the stuff below it).

@Dan I have fixed what I can... however I don't really know this area so suggest you find some people who do (the other managers?) perhaps in a discussion started on the discussion tab of one of the pertinant profiles because it is looking a bit confused in places. SOmeone may have a bible or something that you don't.
Good luck.
