"The Tree" - of Dr. Sigmund FREUD - by a Curator or a GENI technician ??

1) it has several Outstanding Merge Requests

2) it has Private Zombie Profiles - Managed by several Non-Active users - including "Unknown & Sigmund Freud".

Peter, I managed to make a a few public, but only a few. I think many of them are in private, recent generations sphere. I think we need to keep sending messages to the managers of the profiles:

As I slowly go through the merge requests made of me, I am happy that most have already been completed by my collaborators. So thanks to those of you who are doing that. Today I found one that had not yet been completed (a request from July 28, 2010, yes last year) and I don't think they are the same person. So I clicked "No, they're different" box and I got the "Join Geni Pro" message. When I click "No thanks, Continue" box it takes me back to the merge page.

Can someone please complete this merge request? I think it should be denied as they do not appear to be the same person.

George, thanks for Fixing some of them. I have sent Invites to the 3 people you mentioned - as well as 3 other - who own some of the Other Profiles. The other users (Not Active for a long time) - Did Not Respond to abt. 5 user merge requests - or my Collaboration or Family invites. I have Reported them - and hopefully the FREUD Tree will be Fixed soon :)

Biggest problem on GENI = Private Profiles - owned by Data-Hogs and/or Users No Longer Active on GENI. That is what Marketing - Should have Concentrated on !

Totally agree, Peter. A profile like Sigmund's should be tended to, moreover - his heritage belongs to mankind, not to individual Geni managers. Having visited his home in Vienna twice to try and get a sense for his 'living environment', I'm keen on getting this resolved too.

It used to be the case that if you said, 'No, do not want that type of announcement' - whether meaning announcement of Birthday, or of Photos added, or etc. - Geni automatically put you on the do not send any messages list. Now, at least they give you a chance to reject the specific type of message. But still -- many folks felt Geni sending way too many messages, so many undoubtedly have their messages from Geni turned off.

Before declaring a Tree Abandoned and/or turning it over to others - I hope a message is sent, even if they are down for receiving no messages from Geni. Or is this honored, and so no messages sent to them??

I noticed one problem with the merges so far. Somehow the Hennick Van Ness ended up being merged with the Henrick Van Ness. The are born one year apart and at first glance they appear to be the same, but I believe they are two different people.....

I added over 1600 profiles to my tree, and inserted a large amount of data. Now I'm blocked from adding more ancestors... so it is becoming clear to me that I should NEVER have added ANY profiles on Geni----it was a huge error to use Geni as a repository for family data. No warning was ever given that we ordinary users would be manipulated in this way.

As a curator I am not in a position to resolve the fact that you cannot add ancestors but I am in a position to explain the reasoning behind it and to offer you a possible alternative to adding more ancestors. The reason this unfortunate action was taken was because there has been a problem with duplicate profiles being added in the historic part of the 'Big Tree'. It is unfortunate that there wasn't more warning or explanation of these changes.
The possible suggestion I provide you is to search Geni for some of your ancestors. If you find some then you will know the potential value of upgrading to PRO. If this is truly prohibitive then all I can do is apologise and suggest forbearance. Sorry.

I had added Ella as a spouse of Walter's and then after adding an extended family for Ella, determined that my Mr. Bury was not her ex-husband, or in fact connected to her in any way. Now that I can no longer do anything with Ella's family even if I wanted to, could someone please finally sever her connection with Walter?

Re the remarks of T. Jackson defending GENI's action toward its mass public of users, it should be pointed out that the "historic part of the Big Tree" had never been promoted by GENI as its be-all and end-all purpose and goal -- the notion of individual familes' genealogy and community tree building was. For the regular user such as Donald (and myself and others) who have contributed a ton of genealogy -- and correctly -- to GENI, now to have their work effectively down the drain on the pretext that it lets GENI safeguard its precious "tree for Henry VIII," or some such notion, is entirely disingenuous and even more preposterous than the moves they made against regular users without warning, justification, or notice. The credibility is nil: if GENI had in truth so highly valued their "historic tree(s)" that they had to protect them from the likes of us, all they needed to do was charge money to access "the historic tree" ! That would have separated the "historic"-minded wheat from the chaff, and left regular genealogists to do their work. Now we will need to take that work elsewhere. But there are places to take it.

In processing some potential merges on the 'pending' list, I clicked too fast. :(

I think the key mistake is this profile which was incorrectly merged:

If someone could help undo those ... and there may be some others directly related to those (pre-merge) 4 which were also done today ... that would be appreciated!

List out the correct parents / spouses please within the profile about me text and advise when done. Source documents / citations also appreciated. Then the incorrect relationships can be severed and with less likelihood of error in the future.

Could a curator please help me with two merges inside my own tree.

Parents to two siblings, Ane Kirstine Pedersen and Laur Pedersen, married to two siblings.
I have just made a dublicate of the parents in question to make the first mentioned siblings connected to the same parents.

I was able to easily assign Ann Beale Armistead her correct parents. I'm unsure of the two husbands, they could be a match. I queried the other manager and seek your opinion as well.
