All of the "about" data on my profiles has disappeared. Is this gone forever? It was a lot of work and I am very upset that one week after the outage it is still missing. I have a feeling it will not be recovered. Please advise.

Judy, just wait it out, there still seems to be problems. I just deleted two of the three duplicates of the same message. I would move on but not try to make any serious changes. Things will get sorted out in due time.

I am Also Missing many of the Overview: "About" notes.

Hopefully - GENI can Restore the data - as I have spent many hours adding the notes - with external & Geni links and text formatting - see example:

Johann Hans Klimesch

It would be almost Impossible for me - to find out which of the Many profiles Lost their Notes - and Restore them from Revisions.

We are still in the process of restoring the profile details, including About Me.

Everyone with concerns should read the discussion at http://www.geni.com/discussions/86491?msg=726172

Judi, I'll have a look tomorrow (dinner time here). I think we simply have to get her talking to you (whoever she is :-) )

Hi! Can someone please explain what happens to a public profile if you merge it with a private profile? I don't want my public profiles to become private. Thanks!

You cannot merge a private and public profile together. The manager of the private profile needs to make it public first.

Not exactly. You can merge a public and private profile and still keep it private. The managers just have to approve and give permissions to it.

Thanks to Bjorn and Erica,
Since the public profile is one of mine, and the private profile is managed by someone else, what would happen in the interim period while the merge was being approved? Would the public profile still be public (desired), or would it be private? The other manager has not been online for sometime, but not long enough for the line to be considered abandoned.
Thanks,
Jessie

To merge with a private profile the manager or a family group member of it have to approve it and/or accept a temporary family group invitation to give you access. If you PM me a link to the profiles in question I can tell you who it might be worth contacting by checking their last login which the curators have access to see.

Sorry, missed your question: A requested merge is just a requested merge, visualized as a blue (+) in tree view. The visibility will not change, and there is no timeout on the request (I have had requests that was approved over a year after the request). The merged profile might become public, but the managers will have access to make it private if there are any users within the family group.

Thanks to Bjorn,
Here is an example:
http://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000000284143238?return=merge_...

The profile managed by Paul Steiner is private, and he is apparently non-responsive. My concern is that if it is approved I won't be able to keep the profile public. My feeling is that I don't wish to merge unless I can keep it public, as, to me, that is the whole point of Geni.
Thanks for your time,
Jessie

My thanks to Mike Stangel and the Geni staff for restoring the tags to my documents!

Shh... it's a secret while we make sure everything checks out. Okay, you got us -- the profile "tags" (associations) to photos, documents, projects, discussions and videos have been restored. Let me know if you see any related problems.

Jessica, It looks to me like Paul Steiner is not active and you should report him as an abandoned tree.

I have many "kissing cousins" (1st cousins). Is there anything I should do differently in posting because it certainly adds to the duplicates as: father, mother, etc the same.

Hey Roger, is there any chance you could be more explicit about the problem?

Try that David you may need to do some mergin and cleaning up data conflicts

merging

Thanks!

Dear Curators,
Is there some change that I'm not aware of? All of a sudden a large number of my profiles no longer are showing the yellow arrows that allow me to add family members. I DO have the box clicked in tree mode, and they all show me as manager. Example:
Thomas Sweetser This is one that will not let me add.

One generation below:
Mary Ann Cheever

This one will let me add. What's going on?
Thanks,
Jessie German

Jessie it might have been a server burp. If I go to Thomas Sweetser, profile view, there's an add family hyperlink in the immediate family module, bottom of profile. But a few minutes ago I didn't see that view in my own family group (freak out time). :)

So take a deep breath, look again. Clear your browser cache too.

Well, I'll check it tomorrow, but right now when I go back to around the early 1800's, late 1700's anywhere in my tree it's all the same. The arrows disappear and so does the add button on the profile itself. :(

If. It continues open a help desk case with a couple of specific links and your browser info.

I have just found some merging issues in tree view. Two profiles - I have edit access to both - but I get an error when I try to merge them. Also another merging issue. I have notified Mike Stangel.

I have had about 100 profiles dropped in my tree conflicts list today. No one listed as an updater and no indication that an update has been done. I am a manager of most and get a "do not have permission" on all.

Help desk people! Curators can't help with these unfortunately.

Help desk has never responded in less than 2 months...I have 2 items that have not been fixed in seven, a month after I joined Geni. Not a reasonable solution.

Alexander we're restoring some merge issues that were left out of the original database restore last week. Those should match what you had before, except for the missing updater. I'm going to work on getting that filled in tomorrow or soon thereafter.
