He is listed on the death record as "Baruch Oberländer," not Baruch Reiter. Was it the custom at that time and place to list deceased infants under their mother's maiden name? Or were there other circumstances in this case?

I could find no marriage record for the parents. Is it possible they were not married, or if they were married in a religious ceremony, perhaps the marriage was not registered civilly?
