I grew up in New York City. My parents came over in 1946 and became American citizens in 1953. I knew Joseph Luns as "Oom (uncle in Nederlands) Joseph". He came by for visits when he was in New York, usually for lunch or dinner. He always brought us a big box of Villars chocolate covered cherries. He was very tall and had a booming voice and a big laugh. As I grew older I realized he was someone fairly important in government, dropping names like De Gaulle and Nixon.
