Private User says that Christiaan Frederik Krause, b2c1d4 is recorded in SAG as having married Elisabeth Smit, but no dates are given in the entry for the marriage.

I've been looking through records, and have discovered that it was actually a man named Christiaan HENDRIK Kroese who married Elisabeth Smit/Smith, and that he was the son of Jan Kroese and Wilhelmina Magdalena Unk from the Swartland: "South Africa, Cape, Probate Records of the Master of the High Court, 1822-1990", , FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QP4Z-TH4Q : Sun Mar 10 01:18:17 UTC 2024), Entry for Christiaan Hendrik Kroeze, from 1856 to 1859.

Definitely not the same man as Christiaan Frederik Krause from Uitenhage. The SAG entry for Christiaan Frederik Krause appears to be incorrect

So Elisabeth Smith and her three children on the Geni tree need to be disconnected from Christiaan Frederik Krause.

Thanks Sharon!
If Elizabeth Serventyn is the child who was baptised 17 May 1789 then she is the daughter of Jacobus Hendrik Smit and Margaretha Wilhelmina Louw.

Christiaan Stephanus Smit's DN lists only two daughters: Elsie Sophia Pretorius and Elisabeth Smit (wife of Johannes Jacobus Smit). So he does not appear to be Elizabeth Serventyn's father.

I'd be happy for you to go ahead and assign the former (Jacobus and Margaretha) as parents.

With regards to Christiaan Frederik Krause's potential marriages, I would be most grateful for an opinion about the word " Weduwenaar " ??? that appears immediately after his name on his marriage record with Hendrina Maria Elizabeth Pietersen:

Do you think it means Widower?
If so, then he must have had a prior marriage, possibly to someone named 'Elisabeth Smit' but who is not the same person as Elizabeth Serventyn.

wewenaar = weduwenaar (older variant) = widower

Thanks Daan!
