William Cary (1550–1632) was a notable figure in Bristol, England, serving as Sheriff in 1599 and Mayor in 1611. Born on October 3, 1550, in Bristol, he was baptized at St. Nicholas Parish. He married Alice Goodall on January 14, 1573, and they had several children, including William, Richard, John, Margery, Walter, Robert, Anne, Susan, Thomas, and James. After Alice's death in 1623, William married Mary Llewellyn on February 2, 1624, with whom he had two more children, Ann and Henry. Beyond his civic duties, Cary was a member of the Company of Drapers and served as an alderman and "Keeper of the Back Hall," the Merchant Venturers' headquarters. He passed away on March 1, 1632, in Bristol and was buried at St. Nicholas Churchyard.
