I have advised you before Neil, when I kindly gave you a copy of the Testament Dative, not to add to this profile. This profile should not be locked so no one can edit.

His name is James (Hamilton) Hamilton of Allanshaw.
His father is Robert (Hamilton) Hamilton of Allanshaw. James is a descendant of his, just like his son James Hamilton and his son John Hamilton (Hamilton) of Allanshaw. Proof of this is birth/baptism records, marriage records etc., To have the title, only comes from a descendant, i.e., Robert (Hamilton) of Allanshaw.

Please remove the lock on his name and also on the family tree, so edits can be made.

Many thanks,

Megan Woodward

The existence of Robert Hamilton of Allanshaw has not been satisfactorily established. Certainly, I am not aware of any evidence for his life. If you are in possession of the sought after evidence, then I would be pleased if you would bring it forward here.

For your information: According to John Anderson, Robert Hamilton was the son of John Hamilton of Broomhill and a second wife named Margaret Dalziel. He was, Anderson said: "the founder of a family of that name, which subsisted for some time at Allanshaw in the parish of Hamilton."

William K. Dickson, writing in his account of the family of Hamilton, Lord Belhaven, for the Scots Peerage, followed Anderson.

In his History of the House of Hamilton (p. 187) Colonel George Hamilton also noticed Anderson's claim, although he could not find any evidence to support it.
