Joseph Hodder, NZ Emigrant

A number of citations, particularly the 1841 & 1851 census, has confirmed Joseph Hodder marrying Elizabeth Chislett. In 1841, the couple were living with Elizabeth's father, William Chislett in Long Sutton. The 1851 census record indicates that Joseph was born in 1816 in Huish Episcopi, and not in Frome as the present citation in his profile indicates. This citation also offers clues that the present birth record is incorrect by stating Joseph's father was a yeoman, whereas the family were ag. labourers.

The most significant variation to information posted in Joseph's profile comes from the marriage citation attached to Elizabeth's profile. Therein, it states that the father of Joseph Hodder is Robert Hodder. This cannot be the Robert Hodder (b:1800) to Eli (Ely) Hodder & Joanna Sawtell, and uncle to Joseph. Robert would be 16 y.o. when Joseph is born, and only married Jemima Priddle in 1825.
The marriage record indicates that Walter Hodder was witness to the marriage, suggesting that Walter was possibly a nephew to Robert (he cannot be a brother as he is shown as a brother to Joseph)

Could Joseph be the son of Robert Hodder, b:1796 who would be 20 y.o. at the time of Joseph's birth?
The profile for Robert indicates his death in 1796, but without any citation. It would be unusual, but not improbable, that his brother was also named Robert. Only one burial record could be found for Robert Hodder; Nov. 1799, in Yeovil, and may not necessarily be the Robert in question.

Mary Tilley is shown has having a son George (b:1809) before her marriage to William Hodder. There is little probability that she may have had another son, Robert, pre-1800 due to her young years.

Then, is there a record for Robert Hodder, son of William & Mary that we are missing?
