I posted a comment on National Archives asking about Elijah Hooten pension file. Per 1832 Pension Act, wives and children could collect unpaid pension up to the time of the pensioner's death. Here is the question: https://historyhub.history.gov/military-records/f/military-records-...
Before their reply, I found pension records, showing that Mary Hooten was associated with Elijah's pension, appearingly to indicate she is his wife. Here is the link: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:WJHZ-6TN2

Today, I received an answer from Historyhub, National Archives stating that there were two small files about his pension payout: Thank you for posting your question on History Hub! We searched the series, Settled Accounts for Payment of Accrued Pensions, August 1838–September 1865 (Record Group 217, Entry A1 724, NAID 605914), and found two small files for Elijah Hooton: • File #10746 (1841, West TN) • File #272 (1845, Nashville, TN) There are currently three options for obtaining access and copies of records in our holdings: 1. You can visit the National Archives in Washington, DC, in person. For information about scheduling a visit, please see our website at https://www.archives.gov/dc. 2. You can request a price quote for select documents. To see a list of our Reproduction fees, please visit our website at https://www.archives.gov/research/order/fees. Price quotes require your full name as well as your billing and shipping address. Researchers are asked to keep their request to 3 file units at a time. Should you wish to use this service please send an email to [email address removed] with your name, address and the records you seek (record group, entry number, file numbers, etc.). 3. In lieu of ordering reproductions or visiting us in person, you can hire a private researcher to perform research on your behalf. A list of private researchers who are familiar with National Archives facilities is available on our web site at https://www.archives.gov/research/hire-help. We hope this assists you with your research! Sincerely, Archives 1 Reference Branch (RR1R) [RR1R-23-41071-TJA] _

"Only genealogist fiction requires no documentation"

Genealogist Thomas W. Jones " Without documentation perfectly accurate and totally false family histories . . . look the same.

This totally false information continues to show up on other sites.

It is very frustrating that mis-information is spread.

1. Elijah's name is wrong. No document states Elijah Hooten has a middle name
2. Elijah's siblings are wrong. The will of John Booth Hooten does not list all these children.
3. Some documentation is from a self-published vanity book with no documentation. Hooten's of Tennessee.
4. Elijah's birthplace is wrong. No document states he was born in Cumberland. Elijah on his pension request states the first place he remembers living is Cumberland. That does not mean it is his place of birth
5.Elijah's Hooten wife is not listed anywhere. So Sarah is fiction.
6. Elijah's children are wrong. Document filed with National Archives -- a legal document filed by Elijah's administrator states his children are: WIlliam, Elijah, Littleton, Robert, Nancy Reeves family-Nancy Hooten, and Susannah. END STOP -- no one else is listed
7. John Hooten bio states his father fought in the last battle of the war. Elijah's pension states he was critically wounded much earlier and sent home to recuperate.
