Afrocentric conspiracy theories have no place at a respectable website. Jason Scott Wills please remove the late queen from this offending group project.

Okay, can we take that garbage out and bury it, please? I just ran her ancestry back 12 generations, and there's nothing "Black" or "African" about it. If anything snuck in earlier, the chances of it showing up are pretty close to zero.

No, she was *never* known as the "Black Queen". Why exactly her son Edward became known as the "Black Prince" is uncertain,as is whether he was ever known by that byname in his own time or whether it was applied later (maybe much later). Popular theories have to do with his wearing black armor and/or carrying a black shield, or his having a violent and warlike ("black") disposition. And even this late in their history, the Plantagenet dynasty was still noted for reddish, blond, or light brown hair.

Yes, for the supposed "Latin" roots of French, the Angevins were definitely Franks. Philippa had Cuman ancestry, but that's via Hungary and Steppe tribesmen =/= African.

The problem has been corrected now. 👍

That's a fun website, with lots of valuable (and usually heavily annotated and sourced) information.
