Anne Le Strange, Baroness of ...married one "John Denham" -- not Roger le Strange of Hunstanton

I understand there were connections between the Lestranges and the Heydons. But this one is invalid, imho.

Someone uploaded a testimony (properly sourced and cited, on Wikitree) of one Roger Le Strange of an earlier generation, which indicates Heydon connections. I just think that it is easy to become confused with the old records, and sometimes we are too hasty to 'fill-in' the Tree with whatever seems right at the moment.

Beyond all that, my visitations source for the pedigree chart only gives Anne Heydon's husbands name ("John Denham") and nothing more.

But a correct name with a certain degree of confidence is better than nothing, in my book. And there is absolutely nothing to prove that this Anne Heydon married this Roger Vaux le Strange. In fact, disregarding Tudorplace, Stirnet supports the information given in the Wikitree source linked above from the testimonial of the elder Roger Lestrange.

So I'm convinced that this Anne Heydon married someone named John Denham, and no other.

Here's a link to my source, also posted to the pertinent Geni profiles:

"The Visitation of Norfolk in the Year 1563 Volume 2" by William Harvey, G. H. Dashwood, Sir E. E. G. Bulwer (1895), pp.192-3.

Our source states that Alice Newton and William Heydon III of Hertfordshire's daughter, ANNE, married John Denham -- not Roger le Strange of Hunstanton.

This Roger le Strange attached as her husband looks spurious to me, as there is no proof of this marriage or anything else about his life that I'm aware of.

He also has a half-brother by the same name: Sir Roger Le Strangs, Baron Strangeof Hunstanton

As for Anne Heydon:

Proven children of William Heydon III and Alice Newton:

Henry Heydon, Esq. (m. Anne Twynhoe)
Jeremy Heydon
Ralph Heydon
John Heydon
Anthony Heydon (m. Elizabeth Sergent)
Thomas Heydon of Northcote Hill (m. 1. Marjery Unknown, either Jacob or Bredlaugh; 2. Margaret Ponder)
Ellena Heydon (m. 1. William Payne, Esq.; 2. William Bedell, Esq.
ANNE HEYDON (m. JOHN DENHAM)
Elizabeth Palmer
Dorothy Shoreditch
Alice Bigg
Mary Francks

I emphasize ANNE HEYDON because our source states that she married John Denham

Yet here she is married to Roger le Strange, of Hunstanton whom I haven't found anywhere in the books, so not sure of its validity.

FOUND the answer to this problem. Roger le Strange married a DIFFERENT "Anne Heydon". His wife is from NORFOLK (not Hertfordshire).

Ann Dymoke

AKA "AMY" -- Not sure about her other husbands, but my book says she's the wife of Sir Roger Strange of Hunstan in Norfolk.

Here is the real Sir Roger le Strange, Lord of Hunston & Pakenham according to the published pedigree. And Anne Heydon's duplicate ("Amy"):

Amy le Strange

The book says Amy and Anne are the same person. Idk, but there is no proof of them being separate in their profiles, that I can see. Nothing for the other husbands, either.

Sir Lionel Dymoke, Knight, of Scrivelsby is married to both an Ann and an Amy. Amy is a duplicate of Ann, who died in 1510, leaving one child by Roger Strange (John, who died before his father).

So there are two completely separate Anne Heydons, who have become conflated along with probably a few more Heydon/Haydons. Most of them lived in Norfolk, but the branch in Hertfordshire had the Anne who married John Denham.

I don't think they're even the same generation. There's a 100 years between them.

Wikitree is aware of this Anne's alias "Amy". And I have seen Amy and Anne in manuscripts misinterpreted by transcribers often enough to know that it can happen. But we can compensate for it by paying attention to the dates and relationships. This is why I always feel more confident when I can see the manuscripts with my own eyes.
