I wonder if we can assemble this family?

So far I find:

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~hume/biblio/The%20Scots%20Peerage%20... (TSP, Page 11 of the PDF extract, page 79 of the book)

John of Woll, chamberlain to the Duchess of Buccleuch in 1689, and representative in Parliament of the county of Roxburgh 1693-1702, registered arms circa 1672. He married Agnes, only daughter of Robert Scot of Harwood, and was ancestor of the family of Woll.

Was Robert Scot of Harwood brother to Col. William Scott of Harwood? Did they also have a brother John?

Is Col Scott the same man referred to here?

The Poetical Works of Sir Walter Scott, Comprising Minstrelsy of ...
Walter Scott · 1839
Robert Scott in Stirkfield, with hand at the pen, led be wil. liam Wyly, wryter of this band William Scot of Harwood.

Col. Walter Scott is identified as of Harden, not Harwood:

The Family of Edmonstone - Virtus Auget Honorem

Archibald, 9th of Duntreath (brother of the Dumb Laird) succeeded during his minority in 1637. He married Anna Helena, daughter of Colonel Scott of Harden, (ancestor of Lord Polworth,) and widow of Sir William Adair of Kinhilt. Her father was killed fighting Cromwell at the battle of Dunbar in 1650, and the banner of the cavalry regiment which he commanded, became a family heirloom. It is now in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

Tagging Anna Helena Scott, her first husband Sir William Adair, of Kilhilt her 2nd husband Archibald Edmonstone of Duntreath and their daughter Elizabeth Edmonstone who married James Montgomery of Rosemount. There’s a question about James’ parentage (conflicting sources).

Did Anna Helena Scot also marry Bruce Cochran’s?

* 31 May 1659 William Adair married Anna Helena Scott and he died 30 November 1661. Anna Helena Scott remarried Sir Bryce (Brice) Cochrane

Colonel Walter Scott, I, of Hartwoodburn Has a wife identified without supporting data as yet:

wife of Walter Scott

Alchemist in the family. Rev. Dr. Alexander Colville, D.D.

His grand daughter Penelope Colville was the 1st wife of Colonel Sir Robert Adair son of Anna Helena Scott.

I should mention that many of these people are mentioned in this book:

The Scotch-Irish: Or, The Scot in North Britain, North Ireland, and North America, Volume 2 (1902) Charles Augustus Hanna

https://books.google.com/books?id=KHeAAAAAIAAJ&dq=walter+scott+... (to search inside)

Karl David Wright The book has a nice section on the emigration to New Jersey.

Also notice I found an Alchemist accused of demonology.

Thanks, I'll have a look.

I’ve been cleaning up the Adair / Montgomery tree, the Adair line particularly sourced from this award winning study:

https://landedfamilies.blogspot.com/2013/04/23-adair-of-ballymena-c...

And disconnected an “adventurer” Adair of no known origins:

Robert "Robin" Adair

Tagging Colonel Sir Bryce Cochrane to the discussion. Peerages report him dead in 1650. But according to http://wiki.bcw-project.org/commonwealth/foot-regiments/sir-bryce-c... - not so much. Cashiered to Ireland. Was he known to Anna Helena’s father from Civil War service?

24 May 1666: Letters of bailiery by Sir William Scott of Harden, kt., to John Scott of Woll, his brother, of lands in parishes of Selkirk, Saint Marie Kirk of the Lowis, Ettrick and lordship of Ettrickforest, sheriffdom of Selkirk.
