I also have several other blood relations to the Chapin family as it also ties in with some other members of my tree. I would love to connect with and discover other relatives of Daacon Samuel Chapin.

I look forward to hearing from anybody with relations to any of the individuals mentioned above.

Hi Jathan, I don’t have my direct lineage to Chapin on hand, but I do know that we come through the Cooley branch as well. I believe he is a 10th great grandfather. Our family line stayed in MA/CT until, well, me. I am in CA now and his 11th great grandchildren were born here.

I’m getting curious about Chapin and what sort of person he was. How did he relate with the indigenous tribes, etc.

Emily, the Chapin line is not the only way in which you and I are connected. You and I are 6th cousins through my mother's mother (connection through the Van Deursen line): https://geni.com/HqM9B
8th cousins twice removed TO my mother's father (this one windss from Twing then through a few names and then to Chapin): https://geni.com/kCvff
and also, my Dad's 10th cousin (through the Towne line on his mother's side): https://geni.com/cc7pb

I just thought you might be interested in learning this information. Take care and keep in touch, cousin.

Jathan - With my mother's tree, I am not surprised that we are connected in more than one way. There are many colonial immigrants and town founders among them.

Good luck on finding more about the Chapins.

Emily, I too have many colonial immigrants in my family line (at least a dozen ancestral families in America in the mid to early 1600s), Likely several of the same lines.

Hello Cousins! I too am related to Deacon Chapin in two ways through my father's paternal grandmother's lines. There are few of us left on the Tuttle twig but it seems the Chapin line is still going strong.

When Samuel Chapin arrived on the North American scene, thing were so different from where he and his fellow travelers. They had to find what worked and how to survive. The discussion about him in Wikipedia says a lot. I was lucky to visit the tourist/study of Old Plymouth in 1974. The settlement was being reenacted and built just as it had originally been. People hired as reenactors were actually living daily life, building homes, raising food, caring for animals and answering the questions from visitors.

Being in that place with those people doing the things of daily life was a real awakening even though we were working on a graduate school history study. At that time I did not know my connection to Deacon Samuel Chapin. I so wish I could go back and ask more about him and his family's world.

We als have multiple ties to Deacon Chapin. He is my 8th Great Grandfather fromthis line:

Deacon Samuel Chapin
Josiah Chapin Esq
Lydia Chapin Taft (Married Daniel I)
Daniel Taft Jr
Daniel Taft III
Daniel Taft IV
Daniel Taft V
Captain Thomas Taft
Thomas Kanpp Taft
John Robert Taft (MY Dad)

Also, the Lydia and Daniel 1 had a son who married a second Lydia Chapin (the first female voter in the US ...that line to Samuel is longer).. I have at least one other tie to Samuel. It connects via Daniel III through his daughter Lydia (wonder how Lydia dropped out of the family names?) whose daughter (Hannah Spring) married Bazeleel Taft Jr whose line went through Captain Seth Chapin to Josiah Esq. and then Deacon Samuel Chapin.
