@Tim McGraw

In research years back I found Tim McGraw to be my 5th cousin once removed following these lines - https://ethnicelebs.com/tim-mcgraw

Geni has totally different ancestors for his mother's maternal line and a much more distant kinship for me.

This is the line I followed for the closer kinship: Tim’s maternal grandmother was Annie Catherine Welch (the daughter of Samuel Timothy Welch and Annie Pearl Temple). Tim’s grandmother Annie was born in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, to parents from Louisiana. She was of either entirely or partially Irish ancestry. AND it makes sense given he'd have a great-grandfather with his exact name of Samuel TImothy and the ties to Mississippi would be there which also makes sense given that Faith Hill grew up in Mississippi.

Can someone help me determine which of these lines of ancestors is actually correct?

Thanks!

My quick read is that there are tree out there that show his maternal grandparents as Thomas & Frances, and then there are trees that show his maternal grandparents as John & Annie.

The Dowling family tree, https://gw.geneanet.org/tdowling?lang=en&p=john+joseph&n=d+... , feels more complete, but doesn't show sources to prove connection between his mother and grandparents.

Thanks, Jonathan. I clicked the link to Geneanet, looks like I need to register there to be able to view it, which I will.

Joanthan, I looked at the link you provided and it matches what I have, which is totally different from what Geni has.

Didn't see any ancestry on that biography, but it's a good article.

Post geni profile Links where the tree differs from ethnicelebs & Dowling, they both do good jobs on celeb trees, so we can get Geni corrected if need be.

Erica, Dowling and Ethnicelebs match on the maternal ancestry. It's the Geni profile that is different on the maternal lines.

Tim McGraw

The links others have shared above aren't showing anything, that I see, on the maternal line like Dowling and celebs.

6/16/2019 at 11:02 AM

Can you tag the profile on Geni that differs?

6/16/2019 at 12:05 PM

His maternal grandparents:
Thomas D'Agostino
Frances D'Agostino

The trouble with the sources listed by ethnicelebs is that they just point at 3 different online trees. Two agree with Geni, one (Dowling) does not. None of them have any sources themselves.

Doesn't sound like there's enough documentation to validate either lineup. :(

@Tim McGraw

Don't know what you want...in my view there's sufficient information to at least compare....if you haven't viewed the Who Do You Think You Are episode, you may be expecting too much.

6/16/2019 at 7:50 PM

I've watched the episode.... it only explores his father's side of the tree and doesn't touch his mother's side. His mother's side is what this discussion is about.

http://dgmweb.net/FGS/D/dAgostinoElizabethAnn-HoraceSmith-JosephTri... Is where the Geni grand parents come from. Often a reliable site but no citations; ethnicelebs is specific in their description:

Tim’s maternal grandfather was John Joseph D’Agostino (the son of Daniel Agusta D’Agostino and Elizabeth Isabella DeSilverstri). John was born in Washington, D.C., to a father from Teramo, Abruzzo, Italy, and a mother from Rome, Lazio, Italy. Elizabeth was the daughter of Anthony DeSilverstri.

Tim’s maternal grandmother was Annie Catherine Welch (the daughter of Samuel Timothy Welch and Annie Pearl Temple). Tim’s grandmother Annie was born in Monroe, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, to parents from Louisiana. She was of either entirely or partially Irish ancestry.

That's what I have in my My Heritage tree, Erica, the maternal line that goes Welch / Temple, etc. which both Dowling and ethnicelebs has, but I still don't know it that's correct or if what Geni correctly has is.

Fixed.

Annie Catherine “Cat” Doctors

the obituary posted on
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/103777339/annie-catherine-doctors

Includes mention of grandson Tim McGraw.

I still think Dowling and ethnicelebs is correct for these reasons:

1) Jannie Catherine Welch's father is named Samuel Timothy Welch and TIm McGraw's full name is Samuel TImothy McGraw. I don't think that's a coincidence and is a huge clue to the family ties.

2) The connections with the Welch / Temple lines are from Mississippi and Louisiana and Tim's wife Faith Hill grew up in Mississippi

I know without sources this is speculation, but this speculation seems to fit and the other set of maternal lines has no sources either.

I already fixed it.:). Plenty of sources. Add more family!
