Can Constance of York be added to this project? Constance of York, Countess of Gloucester
I can link her to myself as my 14th great grandmother. When I found her, she had no information written about her. I had been creating a biographical story about her, and asked the curator, @Anne Brennon to unlock her. The curator has her locked down because she doesn't want to lose the citation source list. She asked me to let her know when I had finished. Despite this, she locked Constance again after 24 hours. This is unfair. The reasons are as follows;
1. 24 hours was not enough time to complete my work improving the biography of my ancestor.
2. Nobody else really cares - hardly anyone visits these pages. There is no a rush to update medieval ancestors.
3. I am responsible enough not to lose the citations.
4. If I did lose them, you can recover lost information
5. If they are so important. why doesn't she just back them up on her own computer.
There are numerous locked profiles with messy, disorganised biographies, and plenty more with just a version of wikipedia copied in.
Wikipedia - is EDITABLE. If you copy an old version in then lock it, changes and improvements cannot be maintained.
Locking down dates is one thing, but locking biographies stops people from improving the information.
Constance has 265 Followers & her profile has been visited 18 times in the last 3 weeks. So, I would say quite a few people visit these profiles. I spend far more time in the Medieval than in the Colonial periods. She is, BTW, my 18th GGM.
If you have a problem with Anne, you should take it up with her. I have always found her to be reasonable
Jenna,
One way that i have worked in the past was to develop the biography offline on my PC then when satisfied with it post it to a discussion asking for it to be cut and paste directly into the About.
This way the profile will only need to be unlocked for a minute or two.
I can assure you that Curators only use the full lock on profiles if there is a particular need.
