Can someone....anyone...help with the tree for this profile? (His ancestors} James's parents are inaccurate. Read Judge James Wilson's profile "about me". Read the "about me" info in the following profile...

James Wilson

Read the following thread....

This is an important, historical tree. This is our 28th US President....

Thomas Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the United States

Can’t see the thread if it’s in your geni mail.

Who are the correct parents? The “about” for John Wilson has James who married Agnes Wilson listed

John Wilson died July 9 - 1773 - The children mentioned in his will are:

(1) John (II), b. 1742, m. Mary Wray, d. January 4 -1799;
(2) James, b. 7/13-1743, m. Agnes Henderson, d. June 3 -1799;
(3) Hugh, went to Georgia;
(4) William, b. , d. 1778 of army fever;
(5) Samuel, b.1754, d. 1799.

Correct parents are NN Wilson and Margaretta. Her maiden name unknown. I will see if I can forward thread to you. Give me a few minutes. If you can view it, do you know how to make it viewable? If so, please do.

No, mail is mail, would need to copy / paste to public discussion.

Ok....like this? .... I think you'll have to start at the bottom and make your way up.

Courtesy, has to at some point and time, be put by the wayside when it comes to building accurate trees. I have been told in the past that the best thing to do, to get issues resolved, is to start a discussion. That way it can get more input pertaining to the matter. I guess I'll go that route. Thanks

It's a matter of courtesy... not ability.

I think geni should allow any and all curators to have equal control for profiles. Most profiles...or trees that I have worked on, I run across the same curators. Probably because somehow these curators are somehow related and connect at some point and time. I know that I have checked many times and know that I am blood to most of these curators. If the non-curator members, like myself, were to see a profile with 2, 3, or even more curators jointly listed for a profile, it would give us much more confidence in the tree's accuracy. No one curator can be totally right at all times. The parents listed for profile Judge James Wilson#... was added by a curator other than the one listed as the curator for that profile. His "about me" and sources clearly gives the details to not have him connected to those parents. Also, the profile listed as his father, James Wilson , clearly gives the info in his "about me" to show that the connection is inaccurate. Right now, it shows that this James had 2 sons named James. Birth place for these 2 James obviously confirms...in my opinion...which one is his son.

Thus far. There isn't a "joint curator" function for a profile as yet. We might team up from time to time, but the person assigned curator has accepted oversight responsibility for that profile, and I usually try to respect that. -Ben.

Oh, I thought it said curated by Dan Bodenheimer (Cousin Detective). Can only 1 person be the curator of a profile?

Ben M. Angel, still catching up

It looks as if Margaret is curator for this profile. Any adjustments should be run by her - she's usually pretty good about overseeing profiles. (Of course, she should be made aware of any supporting documentation for the corrections suggested, so that she can defend the information you've given her later on...) -Ben.

Thanks Ben. I have worked a lot on the Wilson tree. I honestly believe the following profile is linked to the wrong parents. Read his profile "about me". His mother was Margaretta. Can you curate it and lock the fields?

Managers of Mary Anne Wilson,

I am contacting you about this profile: Anne Wilson

Ben, Her name was Anne...not Mary Anne. She had a sister named Mary. Please look at the tree.

Sincerely,

Diana Collins

Anne Wilson

Ok, that gives some background. Now we need sources. :)

Since it’s the Pres Wilson tree, can you take a look for the report on his ancestors at FamousKin.com (I think it is) and post that James Wilson & Agnes Henderson? The site is pretty easy to use and has excellent citations usually.

This site mentions the newspaper article about Margaretta.... Judge James Wilson's mother. This is already noted in Judge James Wilson's about me section.

Does that help to understand where I am coming from?

I need the sources. I’ll find them.

Western Herald and Steubenville Gazette, Sat., May 20, 1820, p. 2, col. 2 (actually issued on Sat., May 27th, 1820, as indicated below):
Departed this life, on Wednesday night, the 17th inst. Mrs. MARGARETTA WILSON, mother of the Editor of this Paper, in the 63rd year of her age.
}}} In consequence of the above melancholy event, no paper was issued from this office last week. The outside of this paper having been printed last week, for the purpose of being issued on Saturday the 20th is dated for that day.

And her husband was a Mr Wilson.

I’ll take another look around but I think we’re close now.

12/9/2018 at 5:09 PM

YES...that's it. If you can't find an official copy of that newspaper, the next time I go home to visit my mother, I will go to the Herald Star Newspaper (I believe this was originally the Western Herald and Steubenville Gazette). It is about a 10 minute drive from my mom's house. She lives across the river in Wellsburg, WV. Problem is, that probably won't be until the spring. I was actually born in Steubenville, Ohio...but never lived there. That is just where the hospital was that my went to.

The Death notice / newspaper calls James Wilson “Judge” (Woodrow’s grandfather)

https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/29143439

https://famouskin.com/family-group.php?name=15726+woodrow+wilson&am... Names Margaretta’s husband “Robert,” of County Tyrone, citing

Roberts, Gary Boyd, comp., Ancestors of American Presidents, Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society (2009), 9

However the more recent genealogy report from the Woodrow Wilson “boyhood home” site Disputed the County Tyrone “myth” and the argument is good. Roberts updates his book / articles periodically. Perhaps someone with AmericanAncestors.org subscription could check there, but meanwhile I think we have enough to tweak the the tree.

I’ll advise when done.

Here you go:

unknown Wilson & Margaretta Wilson

Dan Bodenheimer (Cousin Detective) We owe Diana Collins a big “thank you” for spotting this error. I hope you find the updated tree & profile satisfsctory !

12/10/2018 at 4:25 AM

Erica, I can't thank you enough for listening to my pleas. You know how persistent I can be when I believe that I am right on a matter. Sometimes I have a hard time saying what I mean in a way that everyone can see what I'm thinking. If the tree would have stayed the way that it was, I would have had an all blue line to Woodrow Wilson. You know he is the only President that I don't have an all blue line to. So I set my own desire of finding that path aside.... I couldn't remain silent just to have that distinction. I also wanted to thank YOU for suggesting to me a long time ago to get things resolved by starting a discussion. You are a good advisor and teacher. Lots of Love my cousin.

12/10/2018 at 2:04 PM

I have a wonderful “sideways” path to the Pres now!

https://www.geni.com/path/Erica-Howton+is+related+to+Woodrow-Wilson...

Discussion is the point of collaborative genealogy. It makes for peer review. Plus, it’s fun. That article was great.

Private User I just noticed the lovely job you did on the Thomas Woodrow Wilson, 28th President of the United States Biography. Thank you.

Ok, so I decided that if I can't find my blue path thru the Wilson line to connect to Woodrow, I would have to look at the females. Adams....I glanced...and I do have Adams in my tree, will have to look into that later. Woodrow...I have started working on that tree. I have added some profiles, and here are the 2 sources that I have found so far. I added the first one already....

WOW.... Erica....you have GOT to help me figure out the Woodrow connection to Archibald Campbell, Duke of Argyll. Seems to be more than one Archibald, so I'm not sure of the right one. PLEASE read the book from my previous post.... I see a near future "all blue line" from me to Woodrow. These Campbells are my blood.
