Both of the "Confirmed Matches" in Wikitree are impossible since they cite Capt Thomas Harris or Adria Osborne as a parent of this Robert Harris. DNA has proven conclusively that this Maj Robert Harris and Capt Thomas Harris were not related nor had any common male Harris ancestor within thousands of years due to the difference in Haplogroups between their living male Harris descendants. And 2nd, there never was such a person as an Adria Osborne. It has been proven for over two decades that the first
wife of Capt Thomas Harris was an Adria Hoare.

To be more precise: The WikiTree profiles *DO* match with the correct Robert Harris.

The parents of noted on the WikiTree profile(s) may be (are) wrong, but the profile match is correct.

This is one of the most confusing, and potentially mis-leading, aspects of SmartMatches.

A confirmed SmartMatch asserts that the profile on Geni does indeed correspond to the person described in the match:
-- it does NOT assert that all family members on that other site are correct.
-- it does NOT even assert that all the details about the person are correct on that site.
... but enough *is* correct to say "Yes, that is the same person as this one."

Ideally, there would be a way to attach "notes" or a "quality rating" or some such thing to a 'match' so that the viewer could have a better sense of the quality of the information surrounding a profile might be.

Since we don't have that capability (at the present time), the best that can be done is to:
-- provide attached sources on the Sources tab,
-- cite the correct values shown in those sources (see https://www.geni.com/blog/geni-tips-how-to-add-sources-to-profiles-...)
-- document other (currently un-cite-able) aspects (e.g. relationships) in the About text.
-- have a Curator lock the cited fields and/or relationships

There are a number of other possible 'consistency' errors with the relationships surrounding Robert Harris' profile which ought to be either documented or fixed:
-- 4 children of Robert & Elizabeth were born before the current marriage date (it may not be an error of fact; it just perhaps ought to be verified and noted).
-- the currently-attached mother of Robert is shown as having died before Robert was born (as well as 2 of his 3 siblings) ... something is wrong there.

The problem with the way the children of William Harris are shown is because Ellen Burrows was only the mother of Robert Harris while his 2nd wife Alice Archer was the mother of the other siblings. But none of this has been verified from any actual records to my knowledge. Are these 'Confirmed Matchs' in Wikitreetreated the same as 'Confirmed Matchs' from myfamily?

The 'confirmed match' doesn't distinguish between the different possible sources of the match.

That still doesn't answer the question of why a Confirmed Match is shown differently than a Smart Match. If the source of Wikitree is considered the same as myfamily, then why are they shown differently?

A confirmed match is a smartmatch accepted as a link on the profile.

I should walk through the steps so can be more explicit, but there is a prompt "add as source - yes /no"

I confirm links but do not add as source, however other members may do so.

in other words, these confirmed hints are the same as the Ancestry leafy hints that cause tens of thousands of incorrect lineages on their trees. There should be some disclaimer in large/bold print that states that these matches are only to the person cited and not to any children or parents which may or may not be documented in the matched tree and that viewers should research each of these claimed parents or children to be sure of the accuracy of the matched tree before accepting them into their own profile.

Yes, there should be that sort of understanding for anyone confirming a match (or leafy hint) on any profile.

On Geni the difference is there is only one profile per person. All one tree.

Not true. There are numerous persons that have multiple Geni profiles. ie
Charles Breedlove 1688-1758
Thomas Harris 1616-1677or 1616-
Thomas Harris 1636- 1688
Edward Harris d1734
etc

Then they should be merged.

9/30/2017 at 6:56 PM

Charles Breedlove is a typical example. Profiles where (mostly) added in 2009. In 2017, another branch was added 3 generations below Charles that did not previously exist ... but the person then duplicated many of the profiles already existing from there upwards to (and in some places 2 generations beyond) Charles' family ... with no new information (most without dates at all) beyond the parents of that "new branch".

(That overlap has been merged now for Charles F Breedlove, Jr -- though more data cleanup is needed.)

Yes, you have merged together two sons for Charles Breedlove, an Unknown who married Mary Tribble who was actually Nathan Breedlove who died in King Wiliam in 1745, and another Nathan Breedlove who has NO PROVEN PARENTS that had a pregnant wife Mary in 1786 when he died and three sons Isaac. John and Nathan. There is absolutely no evidence ever found of any Breedlove anywhere in the world before Charles Breedlove in 1708 in Essex Co., VA. This includes many past professional genealogists and the Heralds of the College of Arms in London.

Is this correct now for Nathan Breedlove (m. Mary Tribble) and Nathan Breedlove (3 sons John, Nathan, & Isaac)?

No, the son Isaac of the Nathan Breedlove that died 1786 is NOT the Isaac that was born in 1772 that has other parents and siblings.
