Greetings,
Just wanted to share recent developments regarding our maternal ancestor U5a1d2a.
Yfull.com has started their mtDNA tree includng time estimates.
It was known that U5a1d2a was some 7000 years old. However, those of us that share mtDNA from Anne Retif also share a more-recent mutation T4973C. Previously, there was not of much interest regarding the significance of this mutation.
YFull now indicate a downstream branch, U5a1d2a2 formed 3400 ybp, TMRCA 550 ybp. This is based on three samples uploaded to YFull.
Hopefully we will see more samples uploaded to YFull in future and see how this branch develops.

FWIW to those interested in mtDNA haplogroup U5a1d2a:
An archeology-research project at the University of Copenhagen reported on DNA results from several Viking-era graves in Ribe, Denmark. At least one match to U5a1d2a.
These graves date to the Viking-era, ca 1000AD.
This may be an indication that the origin of this U5 ancestor may have been Scandinavian. The Vikings settled and established Normandy, bringing that DNA to France. Anne Retif was from the Loire region in France. Perhaps the pathway for her DNA and her descendants in South Africa.
