Should Agnes Borthwick be the daughter of William, third Lord Borthwick rather than of
William Borthwick, 4th Lord Borthwick as she is shown now?
The identity of Agnes Borthwick is uncertain. However, it seems quite unlikely, improbable even, that she was a daughter of the fourth Lord Borthwick. After all, the fourth lord does not appear to have been married until 1491 http://clanborthwick.com/lineage12.htm whereas Agnes was already the wife of David Kennedy on 9 July 1489 https://archive.org/stream/registrummagnisi02scot#page/395/mode/1up Agnes Borthwick died before 9 August 1509, by which date her widowed husband had already married for a second time to Margaret Boyd, the dowager Lady Forbes https://archive.org/stream/registrummagnisi02scot#page/721/mode/1up
Dear Sharron,
I am pleased that you have accepted my proposal. The Kennedy family is not at the top of my list at the moment but I will try to have a look at the evidence for Agnes Borthwick's children at some point in the future.
Can I point out that someone has posted a "Confirmed Match" which is wrong. The same is also included in "Sources". I don't suppose that this is particularly important, although it might mislead other researchers, but it is untidy.
Kind Regards,
Neil
