Chicago/Cleveland Vetrovec

I have a James Vetrovec who lived in Cleveland, Ohio. He is my 2nd Great Grandfather. I do not know much about him but he did live in Cleveland. He had a daughter Katherina/Katherine b-1861, who married Charles Hules.

hm, I wonder if My James/Vaclav might be a sibling of your Katherine? Has your family done any dna testing?

I wonder the same thing. I did DNA testing back when it first came out. At that time they didn't have the database they do now to connect matches. I plan on doing again very soon. I'll keep you posted.

I have no other info on any siblings for Katherine. I do take care of her grave in Cleveland and those of her children. I would love to dig deeper into the Vetrovec side. On Katherine's death certificate it does list James Vetrovec as her father and that he is from Bohemia. This is what my grandmother (their daughter) told me. Katherine's death certificate does not list a mother.

I'm planning a trip to Cleveland to do some local digging. I'll work on the Vetrovec side.
I have never heard of any of my Grandmother's family living in Indiana BUT...I have a feeling that her mother never spoke of any siblings so my Grandmother may not have been aware of them.

I know there was also a Otto vetrovec living in Cleveland also and where most of the verrovec's in the US cone from. Ive done dna testing on all the major sites, but havent run across any dna vetrovec's outside my documented family.

I too have seen Otto Vetrovec in Cleveland and have always assumed he was related to my great grandmother. I have yet to find the connection.

Your Vaclav James, I believe there is a high chance he and Katherine were siblings. Katherine death cert shows James Vetrovec as her father. Katherine's third born was named Vaclav. He was born September 1887 and died November 1887. It seems possible that she named her son after her father and or brother.

Are you aware of any other possible spelling of Vetrovec?

The Otto Vetrovec shows up in the 1900 Fed Census as 10 years old and his parents are listed as Joseph and Katherine Vetrovec. My Katherine was married to Charles Hules for about 30 years at this point.

"Vaclav, otherwise known as James Vetrovec was born in Bohemia in 1961. He came to America in 1888 and settled in Chicago where he married Philomena Rezac in 1893 and had a child, Jaraslar "Jerry" Vetrovec in 1899. He left his family sometime in the 1900's and moved to Indiana where he lived until his death in 1926. His parents are unknown but it is said he had family in Cleveland Ohio."

"Philomena Rezacova was born in Austria January 3rd 1865. She came to America in 1883 at the age of 18. She 1st married to Frank Marks in 1886 and had a child, Frank Henry Marks in 1886. 2nd married to Vaclav Vetrovec in 1893 and had a child, Jaraslar Vetrovec in 1899.
