There were some merge issues in this family. I don't work in Virginia usually, nor with the Elzey / Thomasin / Suddurth families, so curators and managers / descendants should check that the trees for these three families are correct. Especially Sudduth / Suddurth.

A Halsey family from elsewhere that I was working on got mismerged with the Elzey family which is how I arrived here.

Did Sarah really marry three people? I believe spouse Lawrence Sudduth is an error. If the dates are correct, she died before Henry.

This is the Halsey I was working on. Thomas Halsey, Jr.

He had somehow gotten to be the father of Sarah Sudduth

I am distantly related to the Elzey family but haven't worked on them in quite some time. I looked at Henry and Sarah's profiles. There is a lot of confusing information on the overview tabs. I will poke around and see if I can straighten it out.

For starters, I am breaking the connection between Sarah and Simon Thomasin. The ages are too far apart. I found a study of Northern Neck Virginia families. It has all three families - Suddeth, Elzey and Thomasin - represented, and that site does not show a marriage for Sarah and Simon.

I'm rusty at this so it may take some time. I am enjoying some of the new features. I've been missing my Geni time, and now I'm going to get hooked again, aren't I?

Yes!

There were two Thomasin families living in the vicinity of the Elzeys. It looks like the two have been co-mingled. If I separate them out, I will know which Elzey married Thomasin. Then, perhaps I can figure out which Elzey married a Suddeth. It's very much a work in progress, but I will keep at it as time permits.

Ben Angel curates a few profiles in this part of the tree. As I am still not going be "full time," I will leave him as curator.

Sure, that makes sense. I didn't want to curate any of them since I seldom work in that region so I am not at all good on sources.

Hi Hatte Rubenstein Blejer, I had messaged all the profile managers on this profile just over a year ago. Copied and pasted below is my message to them:

Managers of Thomas Halsey, Jr,

I am contacting you about this profile: Thomas Halsey, Jr.

I noticed that some folks have tried to combine Thomas Halsey and Thomas Elzey into one person. In researching my ancestor Jane Gregg and by association Thomas Halsey, I've yet to find anything indicating these two people were ever married. Does anyone have anything documenting their marriage? If not, for the sake of descendants of both the Halsey and Elzey lines, I propose that Thomas Halsey be disconnected as a husband of Jane Gregg so connections on Geni are accurate.

The two men Thomas Halsey and Thomas Elzey were clearly two different men. I can't find another wife for Thomas Elzey other than Jane Gregg; whereas Thomas Halsey did have another wife with whom he seems to have had all his children. All of Jane Gregg's children were Elzeys.

If my understanding of these connections is incorrect and someone has documentation or sources other than just what someone has in an online tree, please correct anything I've concluded that may be incorrect.

Sincerely,

Debbie Gambrell # VJ294190C1, mtDNA H2a1

Today I got the one and only response in over a year:

Did this ever get ironed out? Sounds to me like your info is more accurate than what's listed on his page. This is my husband's side of the family, and I borrowed it from a relative, so I don't have the info anymore.

I attempted to remove Thomas Halsey as the husband of Jane Gregg for the reasons I mentioned, but I discovered she has two husbands by that name and both profiles are locked, so I need assistance with this.

I never found anything to prove he was married to Jane Elzey (Gregg) and none of her children bore the surname Halsey, only Elzey.

Thank you.

Debbie Gambrell - I saw your email first.

Two entirely different geographies, the Halsey family in Long Island and the Elzey family in Virginia. I don't know where the error crept in, but I have detached Jane Gregg from James Halsey. If you read the Overview of James Halsey, you'll see that he was married to Mary (surname unknown).

I was enroute to Poland when the Geni message about this was sent a year ago. I was in Poland for 3 weeks, mostly with minimal time or Internet connection.

I just did some cleanup and ran across this note:

Sarah's mother, Jane, married Thomas GREGG after the death of Thomas ELLZEY. Her will written in 1720 names a grandson Simon THOMASIN and her daughter Sarah THOMASIN. Sarah had married John THOMASIN and apparently was still married to him in 1720. If Sarah ELLZEY THOMASIN married Henry SUDDUTH, it was after this date.

So Sarah Elzey is still a bit controversial (but no longer a Halsey).
