(From Sue Webb): This appears to be the James Glass Gunter from whom E. SUE WEBB descends; however, the National Archives and Records Administration reports James Glass Gunter's date of birth to be 1754 instead of 1774.

A 1754 birth date would be a bit old for the children (his age of 46 to 69 at their births), but certainly not improbable.

There seems to be Virginia marriage records for a James Gunter to Susanna Sims - but the 1806 marriage date comes in the middle of the births of the children. (e.g.: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XRQV-Y8S). No ages shown in the indexing records.

There are two James Gunter's who served as volunteers in the War of 1812 (one with Georgia Milita { https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-G5V7-GB6?mode=g&i=... } and one with Tennesse Volunteers { https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-95V7-LRM?mode=g&i=... } ... as this James died in 1830 in TN, that latter may be applicable -- with a 1774 birthdate, he'd have been ~38 at the start ... a bit old, but not outlandish for a sharpshooter. A 1754 birth would definitely have made him too old to be accepted for active military duty.

This James should not be confused with the James Gunter b.1794 (Son of Augustus Gunter, I & Mary Haley, m. Julia) => James Glass Gunter

@ James Glass Gunter
James Glass Gunter b. 1754 is listed in Fold3 records. His parents are listed as Thomas Gunter and Martha. James Glass Gunter b. 1774 is listed in Fold3 also and his parents are John Gunter and Amy Tillotson. So we know that Amy Tillotson did not die in 1766 as some researchers have posted and Sarah Goodson is not the mother of James Glass Gunter b. 1774. We don't know much about James Glass Gunter b. 1774, but it is a work in progress. I did find James Gunter on the 1830 Missouri Census Record. Margaret (Gunter) Hill (a widow) daughter of James Glass Gunter as per record, is also listed as Head of House. Margaret later marries Henry Banister in 1832, then John Truitt about 1849 or 1850. It is estimated that Margaret died in Missouri between 1851-1856. I can't find a record of death for Margaret nor a marriage record for her and her first husband unknown Hill. Still a work in progress......Sue Webb

I did some more duplicate merging of another branch among the Gunter clan, and also connected James Glass Gunter, I (1774) to parents Amy Sarah Gunter and John Gunter.

Here is a link to daughter Margaret Truitt.

Dan I have a small lead to tracing down the unknown Hill that Margaret married. It is a long
shot, but looks good. This is a real mystery as is some needed information for James Glass Gunter listed as Margarets father. James Glass Gunter is my GGGG-Grandfather. It is finding him married to Mahulda ? that is going to be a challenge. Evidently James Glass Gunter was married several times. His son George Washington Gunter b. 1800 died in Cache, Arkansas. His cousin was also named George Washington Gunter b. 1800. Can you imagine that? Unbelievable. Anyway once we find Mahulda ? and Unknown Hill, we will be able to take this family all the way back to England, etc. Here we go! Sue Webb
