At one time I was connected to her but now I am not. I see there have been quite a few edits to her tree and I am wondering if they are all good. At one time a couple of years ago I made a few merges and edits but now I don't do that because I really don't know enough to do things accurately. Is there a way to check to see if all the edits that have been made by people are accurate? I am wondering if people really collaborate on making the changes or do them on an ad hoc basis. I don't pay too much attention to merges and matches anymore because I am afraid I will mess things up but am counting on others who know way more. Pls advise.
Hi Vicki
I'll try to describe my method of tree validation. I do it in sections.
Geni says: Catherine Gray of Buttergask - Stewart - Ruthven is Erica Isabel Howton's third cousin 15 times removed!
http://www.geni.com/path/Erica-Howton+is+related+to+Catherine-Gray-...
(note: there might very well be "alternate paths" to the same profile & different relationships).
So how do I section this off to a manageable chunk?
There are two main pieces: American side, Scotland side. I already know what is weak & strong about my links in the US. So I would just work on this historical section, from the 3rd Earl to Catherine Gray. Using the pushpin again to these two:
Catherine Gray of Buttergask - Stewart - Ruthven is Sir Cuthbert Cunningham, 3rd Earl of Glencairn's first cousin once removed's husband's sister.
http://www.geni.com/path/Sir-Cuthbert-Cunningham-3rd-Earl-of-Glenca...
(a smaller and more manageable project)
So the next step is to inspect each of the links between for:
- sources
- tree conflicts
- data conflicts
I generally would have a good guide in front of me in another window.
Where did you get your sources to connect Catherine as a "Gray" The sources I have come across state that her last name was really not known and that she lived in the Buttergask area. I have not been able to find a listing which list Andrew Gray and Elizabeth Stewart as having a child named Catherine either. .... thank you for your time. Candy
