GINO BARTALI

Fall 1943
Bartali "the pius" Tour de France winner used as a courier für new identity passports for fleeing Jewish refugees, by Cardinal Elia(s) de la Costa Vatican's representative in Florence, Italy. Assisi is where they were being created, back to Florence. TV show monumental mysteries (at the museum specials) , Travel channel.
In July 1944 Gino Bartali was summoned to the fascist police headquarters for questioning. Notorious interrogator Maj. Mario Qeurita/Querida did the questioning. Has him locked up, and interrogated anew. But Batali doesn't admit anything. Due to Bartali's renowned faith and christian rules, he was set free, as a guard steps up and makes note of his legendary "pius"-ness and that if he says it is so, it is so, he wouldn't lie.
By the time the war ended, Over 600 people were saved by their efforts, from wrongful prosecution.
