Private, the Abandoned trees option, once pressed will disappear. After 7 days, it will reappear. I think (purely based on 20years in IT), that they have done that to allow the system time to transfer management of the profiles and to reduce system drain in case they get a hacker who decides to press it every second.
Private User, unfortunately some people just stop using GENI, and after 9 months of inactivity, GENI considers them abandoned. As a pro user, when you pressed Abandoned Trees and it came up with no replacement manager, did it give you an option to take over management of the profiles (I don't get it as a basic user)? If it didn't, you can ask a curator to take over the profiles but they may not be able to do it for 7 days (until the option comes back)
Grace Neale (Butler) still has two Zombie profiles attached (one "daughter", one "son-in-law", and they do not belong there: https://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000009172549267
I have been talking with the person named as manager, and they say they can't fix it either (they're Basic).
Re: https://www.geni.com/discussions/142108?msg=1081259
FYI "zombies" have nothing to do with membership level. They have to do with management. A manager (or in the family group) can switch from private to public, so can curators ... Sounds like they may not know how, or they're not the manager.
I'm not at the tree view computer so can't see from iPad unless there's a direct link. If someone else doesn't get to it sooner I'll try late tonight.
I need an experienced and intrepid curator to try to prise apart and match up various profiles in a mess of crossed wires I have uncovered (and incorrectly matched, and various conflicting information in the matches too).
I think it all started when this Richard Marsham, born in the US to a Thomas Marsham of London (according to his grave record), got matched up with the incorrect Thomas Marsham as father : Col. Richard Marsham
- I think that Richard & sister Margaret probably need a new Thomas Marsham father (mother unknown).
Then, the Thomas Marsham here (incorrectly linked as Richard & Margaret's father) Thomas Marsham was incorrectly married to the incorrect Lucy Suckling.
I have corrected this Lucy Suckling Lucy Cocke and created her bona fide husband, Samuel Cocke - and she died a year after her marriage.
A different but related Lucy Suckling here Lucy Marsham was indeed married to a Thomas Marsham of Stratton Strawless.
I have created a new profile for him here: Thomas Marsham, but he needs to be merged with the Thomas Marsham above, as his parents were the same (all checks out in Commoners - notes given on profile) - after removing the links to that one's children.
Clear as mud? :-|
I've now
- added some more family to the new Thomas Marsham (married to the correct Lucy Suckling), and
- added a second set of parents to Richard and Margaret Marsham of the US - Thomas of London and his unknown wife. However it will not allow me to remove the relationships to the old (wrong) parents.
I think once these are sorted out, it might be a good idea to lock down some of the Norfolk folk... and I don't know of all of those matches to various MyHeritage and other profiles can be undone? I think that most or all are incorrect.
I have to leave this now, will come back to it tomorrow.
Sorted out the "O'Neale" situation. People are going to have to start taking the Miles Files seriously. http://espl-genealogy.org/MilesFiles/site/index.htm
For ancestors on the lower Delmarva (Accomack and Northampton Counties, VA; Somerset and neighboring counties, MD; Kent and Sussex Counties, DE) that is the FIRST place to look.
Melanie, if it just gives you a warning that "this may split the tree", you *can* ignore it and proceed anyway.
If you're trying to do it through the "Resolve duplicates" popup screen and it tells you you're not allowed to, close the screen, go to the profile of the *child* that you want to remove, open the profile, and (if you have Relationship access) Remove the wrong parents. (See above about "split the tree" warning.) You have to "Save" also, or the change won't "take".
If all else fails, try using the Move function in Tree view to move the "child" profile onto each of the respective parents you want it to have, and selecting the appropriate relationship ("Son" or "Daughter" as the case may be) from the resulting popup. This is a brute-force method, but it usually works.
To merge a profile that has no obvious connection to another one, open *both* profiles (either at the same time, or one after the other - it doesn't matter), then on either one of them pull down the "Actions" menu to "Merge this profile" and type in the name of the other profile.
I hope this helps.
I am a big fan of GENI…Despite those of my comrades, I stand firm with you all. I particularly like your “relationships” contribution. I will double check many items with other sites. One friend of mine keeps whining “ya but where are the documentations?” I never worry as I suspect many times there could be errors. At my stage I like “bragging rights”. Would you give me a ruff idea just how GENI WORKS? I wonder about your volunteers as most people like to be paid for their efforts. Fill me in please.

I'll give my answer to the volunteer curator question, Robert -- we are all of us very interested in the Geni project and in the collaborative method and in the World Tree; we all have our own personal reasons for doing the work, though.
In my case, I love being able to continue to teach -- I often send LONG emails to users explaining medieval history and Welsh naming systems and the like -- and I enjoy the OCD puzzle work of cleaning up the tree, and I enjoy working with the other Geni users and my fellow curators, and I am very happy to be able to continue working in medieval history, and I like it that I am useful.
Here is a link to the curator page, which explains more about the volunteer curators: https://wiki.geni.com/index.php/Curators_--_and_how_YOU_can_help
And yes. We're all working on making the site reliable. We are in this together.
Much like the actual world tree that we are all connected to, in our daily lives!
I was sent a Geni email on 4/16 to review and decide whether to merge a Tree Match for Anne Trowbridge (Sherwood) 1691-1777 my 8th great grandmother and Anne Sherwood 1691-1777, same parentage and one same spouse, but then it said "Error - You don't have permissions to merge these profiles." Can we send a merge request to someone who does have permission? Thanks!
Private User That was a "wow answer" if I ever saw one! I love the connection you made to our real life world tree... And I can very much relate to enjoying the OCD puzzle work. :)
Thank you for being curator, Anne, and for sharing your knowledge. I have noticed the effort you put in the tree. We (the users) are all lucky to have you!
I will have to ask your indulgence if you look at the duplicate profiles https://ragjaw-hotmail.tinytake.com/sf/NjAxNDE3XzMwMDA5Njc you will notice the bottom two profiles do not have managers, this is due to a new feature Geni is working on and we were ask to hold off merging
Hope you understand
Private User - thanks very much for that guidance. I kept hitting snags, but am 3/4 of the way there now...
However, I stuffed up at one point with the US Marshams, and somehow created a Richard Marsham who is father of (the new) Thomas) as well as his son. As we don't know the father of Thomas at this point, he is top of the tree and the father Richard needs to be either removed or merged with the son Richard... Unfortunately they are both MPs, which may be why it won't let me proceed.

It might be easiest to look at the tree of Thomas - you can see the two Richards more clearly that way.
Thomas Marsham
Thank You @David Lee Kaleita since did not get any notifications of clean-up done - and who ever else checked a couple under revisions and seems he done the most - there is still 2 from the list on pg 170 that were missed Isaac Bailey & Phebe Ingalls Farnum Great Job!
Private User and anyone else:
Apart from the US Marshams (see above - which could be part of a merge resolution that I wouldn't have been notified about, actually), I think that all of the other relationships are now sorted within Geni.
However, this Thomas Marsham of Stratton Strawless, Norfolk Thomas Marsham
and his father Robert Robert Marsham
have been matched with a lot of incorrect MyHeritage profiles.
As I am neither a profile manager nor directly descended from this branch, I don't have a huge personal interest in them, but for the sake of "Geni purity" it would be nice to get rid of them. I am not a paid member of MyHeritage so this prevents me from contacting any of those managers either (although I did contact a FamilySearch one, who is also on Geni).
If anyone can do this easily, it would be nice to get these cleaned up. I have put notes on the About section, but it wouldn't hurt for a curator to add a note at the top, and/or lock them as MPs, or something, to stop false merges in the future.
