George,

Could you not add https://books.google.fr/books?id=8VP4npxABlEC&pg=PA280&lpg=... as a source as well, and ad some comment why the info on The Peerage is wrong (like you did in the message http://www.geni.com/discussions/142108?msg=992644 above)

As far as I am concerned, "ThePeerage" is an unreliable source. You might get good information, and you might get somebody's wishful thinking backed up by bogus data.

Right so, Maven. In fact, the guy who developed and maintains The Peerage did a fantastic job, no doubt - and he explains himself that one has to handle the information with great caution. It's a one-man's job that mainly consists of compiling databases from others. It's really a 'tertiary' source.
Personally, I never refer to The Peerage as a source. In fact, if one does, one should refer to the sources that The Peerage refers to for each entry, as we then get closer to secondary sources. Of course, the primary source is the ultimate goal.
In the concrete example above, the works of Père Anselme have been criticized for some clear fabrications of his. But, a large part is considered of great value. He had access to primary sources that have not survived, so in many cases Anselme becomes the 'primary' source'. Even then, one needs to be cautious. But, it beats tertiary sources.
Please note that the author himself confirms that he does not consult non-English sources for his compilations (though he makes exception for Europäische Stammtafeln). Tough!
Job, I'll do some extra on adding hyperlinks to the material.

(My second-last paragraph was an afterthought about The Peerage :-) )

Requesting multiple unmerges of:
William Hackley Sams

I went a little too fast and had at least one bad profile in a stack of 4 or 5. If someone can unmerge all of them I'll re-work it one by one so the bad profile can be cleaned up before merging.

It may be a good idea to unmerge on the wives as well.
Sarah Jane Sams
Minerva J Sams

joseph and jonathan =2 brother
Joseph Haynes

Joseph Hains did not married Marie Pauzé its the brother jonathan that married that woman

thank you

I went ahead and uploaded the document to sources. Any idea why he is listed as being Joseph-Jonathan there?

I think we need a birth certificate or death certificate to verify the name. It's pretty normal to have a couple of names stringed together.

sigh
someone started creating a mess today and i can't fix it.
it started when this user deleted 3 profiles i had added to the tree.
i undeleted them, but now it all looks garbled.
appreciate your help
thx

Lion Samuel Hanau

I fixed it. Was easy enough.

Someone should MP these 2 brothers and their wives if everything is in order.

mr Whitesides i have read on
http://histoiresdancetres.com/poitras/arraches-a-la-nouvelle-anglet...

Les deux frères auraient vécu chez les Abénaquis pendant plus de dix ans [2] probablement dans deux villages différents où ils ont tous deux été baptisés du même prénom de Joseph par des prêtres-missionnaires.

the 2 brother have been named at batistm joseph by priest.

so here we got good clue why joseph jonathan in the same name of profile ( i was lucky to found this little phrase on that site.

mr Whitesides

the other joseph born 04-08-1689.

Jonathan Scott Krengel: Those merges you did yesterday on those 3 'Sams' profiles (William, Sarah, Minerva) are un-merged. Thanks for your diligence in noting the error(s) and seeking to get it correct!

Okay, I just uploaded for you.

Private User, your issue looks like a software problem. Mike Stangel, any chance you can click on this tree view which concerns RVK's issue mentioned a few messages back? http://www.geni.com/family-tree/index/6000000014359427131

thank you mr Whitesides

It is my pleasure to help.

Geni *has* been acting weird again lately - hanging, scrambling paths, timing out, etc.

You too, Maven? Thought it was just my PC. Do you use Mozilla Firefox, by chance? I think that's where the problem is, as I don't have problems with my tablet.

Yep - Firefox. Maybe Geni Technical Services needs to take a look at that.

Private User I can fix that broken tree, but can you tell me are the kids (John, Nathan, Hendricus) with Wilhelmina or Judith?

Maybe Firefox technical support needs to look! :-) Seriously, though, what do you mean by scrambling paths? (hanging and timing out are probably more related to the surge in usage we always get around this time of year -- one of our engineers is already looking into that)

Mike: it's the usual thing about Geni only liking to use one path at a time and getting stuck on that one path, resulting in some unnecessarily convoluted relationships.

If they ever get the bugs out of the "multiple paths" routine, I'd like to see how it does. :-)

Anneken Hanse Bergen, name fields are locked so i cannot correct.
Should be Anneken Hanse Bergen

Please check

Private User the tree for Lion Samuel Hanau has been fixed. Let me know if you need anything else there.

Mike Stangel, it appears to be a Firefox problem. There are multiple pop-ups, demands to download software, etc. & in Geni, the screen rolls, type runs off the right side of screen, etc. Tried to contact their tech support, but gave up because of multiple pop-ups. Had to switch to my tablet.
