Catherine Anna Manfredi Yronwode

A Pro member should be able to merge any two Public (deceased) profiles.
(It is good to be careful, because only Curators can undo a merge which is erroneous.)

.... unless one member of that merge is not Public *or* is in a "disconnected" branch (one that hasn't been connected yet to the World Family Tree). Only Curators *or* a manager of that "disconnected" profile can 'complete' such merges.

Time does not matter, nor the number of people requesting the merge.

If the manager(s) of the "disconnected" branch are inactive, it would be appropriate to provide the link to such a merge here to ask about it. There are some further checks a curator may take to verify the merge before completing it (particularly checking the status of the managers of such a disconnected branch).

To clarify a bit more: once a "disconnected" branch is joined to the World Family Tree, any Pro member can do the proper merges on the remainder of that newly-added branch (if any more are necessary).

Catherine Anna Manfredi Yronwode - If the message [in blue box, bottom of compare profiles screen] says "Yes, request to merge" then it will need to be accepted by someone on "the other side" as well. As Dan says, it does not matter how many more than the original requester on that requester's side also request it. Fully claimed profiles need to have merge request approved by the Profile-owner; others by anyone who Geni can see is in the Profile's Max Family or a Manager of it (or, I believe, at least for Private unclaimed profiles, in the Max Family of a Manager.)

If the message says "Yes, merge these profiles" then it will go thru as soon as you click that button.

Hi gang,

I don't really want to get involved but someone needs to unmerge Alix de France, Comtesse de Vexin

Alys Ponthiei was merged into Alix de France, comtesse de Vexin by X.
4 Nov 2015 at 9:46 PM

Alys was a mistress of Henry II - http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/BRITTANY.htm#AlixPorhoetMistressHen...

Alix was the wife of Henry's son, Richard - http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/CAPET.htm#Alixdiedafter1200MGuillau...

Not the wife of Richard -- Henry II died before the marriage took place (if indeed he ever intended it to) and Richard married Berengaria of Navarre, and Alys the countess of the Vexin married the count of Ponthieu. After having gotten out of the whole Eleanor-wanting-to-marry-her-off-to John business.

And the being a mistress of Henry was a rumor.

Anyway. I will go look at this, but sounds like the merge might be ok.

@Alex --

this looks ok to me. The people who generally get confused are

Alix de France, Comtesse de Vexin

and Alice de France, Comtesse de Blois

and they are still separate.

Dan Cornett and Private User, thank you for the clarification. I now understand the system.

I may be bringing some merges here for Curators, if the various "private family managers" do not get back to me. I will give them a while to respond.

I was skim reading Cawley, he actually records:

" Betrothed (by peace treaty 30 Sep 1174, betrothed 21 Sep 1177) to ALIX de France, daughter of LOUIS VII King of France & his second wife Infanta doña Constanza de Castilla ([4 Oct] 1160-after 1200). "

So you are correct that Richard did not marry Alix.

Rumor or otherwise Henry's mistress/hostage was not daughter of King Louis, which is what Geni currently shows

Alex Moes -- oh, I see. You are talking about https://www.geni.com/people/Alix-de-Porhoët/6000000014057327705?thr... -- her father accused Henry of holding her hostage, but she is a different Alix/Alice/Alys than the one that the POPE accused Henry of holding hostage.

No, really, these three profiles are ok. One is the daughter of Eudes de Porhoet. Two are the daughters of the King of France, one by his first wife Eleanor, who would later marry Henry Ii, and one by Constance.

Anne,

So the profile of Alys Ponthiei that was merged into Alix of France that was done two months ago should have been into Alix de Porhoët instead.

I think there is still a problem with Alix de France, Comtesse de Vexin as she currently displays as Partner of Henry and Fiancée of Richard.

No. Alys de Ponthieu and Alix of France, countess of Vexin, are the same woman, may she rest in peace. AND she was the fiancée of Richard. AND she might have been the mistress of Henry II. AND she was the daughter of the King of France.

Here is an Helpful Link: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alys_of_France,_Countess_of_the_Vexin

Alix de Porhoet was anothe woman entirely, AND she was also the mistress of Henry II.

And there was another Alys who was yet another daughter of the King of France but let us leave her alone for now.

A tangled mess but it sounds like you have it well in hand, i'm more than happy to leave them all alone. Not my ancestors and no personal interest in English royalty what so ever.

They were indeed a hot mess.

The problems you noted make sense as problems. There is the issue of the names for one thing.

But mostly the issue that the story seems so improbable. But. There you are.

Thanks! Looks like all is well, though.

I'm not a paying member at the moment, so I can't really change anything. I don't even know the person you mentioned.

Dan Cornett I think Catherine Anna Manfredi Yronwode is asking exactly the same question I've asked myself many times.Sometimes when I attempt to merge a profile I will see a message saying this, that and the next person thinks this is the same person.
I've just tried to merge one and as yet it only shows my name but in a couple of days there will be more people who thinks this is the same person, unless the profile manager picks it up and completes the merge.

You are correct Geni is a 'collaborating' site. Whenever you get into this situation go to the manager's profile, go to Actions (top right) click on Request to collaborate...When the default wording comes up, go to the bottom of it and typy I would like to merge these profile then copy and paste the url from the merge request..if you still not able to get through you can always post the merge request in this discussion and a Curator will pick it up.

If you notice one of the Curators did the merge check the Revisions

I need some help/advice with Hugh Hamilton of Lisbane who is incorrectly showing as a son of Rev Hans Hamilton & Janet Denham. There is quite a bit of information available describing the six sons of Hans & Janet but none of them were Hugh. Despite hunting around I have nothing which names Hugh's parents. Is it 'just' a case of going to the relationship tab and removing the incorrect parents? Or is this going to cause problems? Thank you.

Several of the other managers are active these days -- so there are a couple of things you can do before you detach him -- one would be to message the other managers, with your information, and ask if there is a reason NOT to detach him (in case somebody has some source information they haven't posted yet). Another would be to go to the "discussion" tab on the profile and ask the same information -- it theoretically gives you a larger pool of people to reach.

Thanks, @Anne Brannen - I have sent messages to the other managers but, as yet, there is no response from any of them. I'll wait a little longer, and try posting something on the 'discussion' tab.

May I suggest you also contact Erica Howton one of our expert Curators if you look at some of the profiles around Hugh like his suggested parents and grand parents Erica is the Curator

Could someone please help me merge a few profiles together...

Starting with

Fokje Sijes

Fokje Sijes

They are the same person but I need help regarding the husband, brother and parents. I do not want to mess things up.

Dorothy Smid I merged them all and there are no tree conflicts left. I'm not sure why you were afraid of messing things up: the one thing you need to be aware of is that in those days many people did not have a surname at all, but only a first name and a patronym (derived from their father's first name).
So the father of Foeck Sijes has Sije as first name, and from the patronym Oeges we can conclude that the first name of her grandfather must be Oege. But Oeges is not a surname at birth for her, and I removed it from the profile for that reason.
But for some reason she and her husband Roel used Feenstra as surname, and so her son ends up as Sije Roels (patronym from Roel) Feenstra

Thank you Angus Wood-Salomon I will try this route in future.

Hey guys. There is a good chance I just made an improper merge on Lorah Sampson. Could you please double check and correct if necessary. Something caught my eye just as I hit the button. Sorry and thanks

Sarah Soule UN merged

Tricky area! Getting notes into the profiles helps me, I find.

Seems we have curators with dueling MP profiles:
Ralph Kiner
Ralph Kiner

Eldon Lester Clark,

I think that you should merge yours into Hatte's MP.

Kevin

Yes, her profile was a few months older than mine :-)

Jonathan Scott Krengel,

Taken care of by Eldon.

Whew... not a good area to mess up in. Thanks.
