Sorry my finish language skill is not as good as it was when I were I child. I asked my mother what you wrote and she is interested. She says she have some documentation from a previous attempt on genealogy over the Paldanius name. I don't know much myself but as I remember the earliest records in Sweden originate the name in northeast Sweden around 1500 -1600. Somehow it was a connected to the family Sursill. The persons behind the genealogy thread I read was Kirsti Ervola och Jukka Ahvenlampi, Tapio Vähäkangas.
If my mother finds the documents I will post a note for you here.

Sorry, I regornised that your fathers name was Jorma (like my father in law Jorma Paldanius) - I had no idea that you are not Finnish speaker. Where are you from?

As your mother may have told I have founded a project into Geni to identify all posterities of first person used famulyname Paldanius.

The first one was vicar Thomas Laurentii Paldanius from Hailuoto northern Finland:
Thomas Laurentii.

This type of -ius based family names were typically given to students or priests in 1600- century.

Collecting data of whole family is huge project and nobody is able to do it by itself. That why Geni is for - everybody can give his or her piece into study.

I did not follow your tree in Geni but if you are interested you can add the data what you know there and find how you are related to novelist Sakari Topelius or president Tarja Halonen.

Well I was born i Kiruna and my father, if i remember correctly, was born in some small place called Lapinlahti, Finland (not sure about the spelling though) but as a child he was shipped to relatives in Sweden because of the war. I cant tell you anymore until my mother has found her documents.

Thanks about your story. Lapinlahti is on main area of family. If you are interested I believe that I can help you to get data for 10 previous generations. What is needed is your grandfathers full name and birth date.

Well I spoke to my mother. She could not find the documentation. But she remembered that my fathers fathers name was Samuel Daavetti Paldanius and that his fathers name was Abner Paldanius. Unfortunately I have no dates yet. My mother will contact remaining relatives in Kiruna.
Yes I would like to see your data of ten generations but how can I get that?

And Sam, you can see the chain of generations by pressing Johan's link above. Then always press father of current person. As Geni user you should have a possibility to print a tree from there.
