Outchibahabanouk Ouehou
Two Questions.
Question 1:
"Sauvagesse" (i.e. the French femine of savage) is found in the Birth Surname field.
We do find this term as a name in contemporary sources, like church records. This is how natives were often labeled by immigrants.
However, for Geni, would it be more appropriate not to use the term?
Question 2:
About Last Name: Can one help us with information or references to explain how first/last name should be done with the People of the Huron First Nation? As it is now (as I am typing these lines), first name is "Oueou Outchibahanoukoueou" and last name is Oueou's husband's name "Manitouabeouich".
According to Geni naming conventions, husband's name should not be given to the wife. But is there a compelling reason to do so here?
If not, shouldn't the last name be "Outchibahanoukoueou"? Is Outchibahanoukoueou actually a first/middle name or a last name?
Thanks,
Hi Mario
I wonder if a "portal" for the First Nations peoples needs to be set up, similar perhaps to this one?

I hesitate on First People's personally because the record sets are different, and I'd like to hear from others more conversant with their history.
But perhaps some of the guidelines we've developed for other countries indigenous peoples can assist as a model.
